Of Waltham, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday morning January 17, 2018 at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington at the age of 73.
Born on May 24, 1944 in Newton; son of the late Loreto and Lucia (DiBona) Mazzola, Joe was raised in the Lake section of Newton and moved to Waltham after his marriage 47 years ago.
A graduate of Newton High School, Joe earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Wentworth Institute of Technology and Master’s degree from Northeastern University. Joe was employed as an Electrical Engineer throughout his life, retiring in 2017.
Joe enjoyed spending time with his family on the Cape and traveling with his wife to Aruba and other tropical locations. He devoted much of his time to his family especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed playing cards and shooting pool and loved to go fishing.
He had been a longtime member of the Lexington Lodge of Elks B.P.O.E. #2204 and had served in many capacities including Exalted Ruler.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years Joanne (Tortorella) Mazzola, his loving children Kathleen Mazzola of Los Angeles, CA, Lisa Dumont and her husband Donald of Southborough and Joseph A. Mazzola of Easton, his cherished grandchildren Donald and Lillian Dumont, Edward and Rosalie Mazzola and his dear brothers Alfred Mazzola and Loreto Mazzola both of Newton. In addition he is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

Relatives & Friends are respectfully invited to attend Funeral Services in celebration of Joseph's Life from the Brasco & Sons Memorial Chapel, 773 Moody Street, WALTHAM on Monday morning Jan. 22nd at 11:00 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 920 Trapelo Road, Waltham at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waltham. Visiting Hours will be held in the Funeral Home on Sunday Jan. 21st from 12:00 - 4:00 p.m. Parking attendants will be on duty.
