Obituary for Walter Michael Mills

Of Ashland formerly of Waltham, passed away peacefully early Monday February 26, 2018 in his home after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 70.

Born on August 13, 1947 in Brunswick, Maine; son of the late Alexander Mills and Rita (Dagenais) Mills, Walter was raised working on the family farm in Brunswick, Maine. He moved to Carney, New Jersey for a summer and joined the United States Army from Newark, New Jersey. He returned from the service and raised his family in Waltham where he resided for 32 years before moving to Ashland in 2000.

Walter proudly served with the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

Walter had been employed as a Truck Driver with Waltham Lime & Cement for many years and as a Union Truck Driver with the Teamsters. He owned and operated Carl’s Variety Store in Belmont from 1982 to 1997.

He had a great sense of humor and loved to tell jokes. He enjoyed outdoor sports like hunting and fishing. For a period of time he collected corvette’s.

Walter is survived by his loving wife Marcia Leigh (Howard) Kilburn, his devoted children Michael Walter Mills of Hartford, CT, Carl Mills of Waltham and Lorie Mills Collins and her fiance’ Richard Canney of Waltham, his cherished grandsons Hunter & Charles Collins and C.J. Mills, his dear brother Alex Mills of Maine, his former wife Maria (Cimino) Mills, his stepsons Richard Kilburn, Ryan Bradshaw and his step granddaughter Rayna Kilburn.

A Funeral Service in celebration of Walter’s Life will be held in the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody Street, WALTHAM on Monday morning March 5th from 9 - 11 a.m. Burial Services with United States Army Military Honors will be held at the Massachusetts Veterans National Cemetery in Bourne.
