“Got Any Potatoes!”
I had meet Jerry briefly shortly before I moved in as a new tenant a couple weeks before my actual move, knew little about his mannerisms and personality. But I learned quickly! My first full day( move in was day before) as many know day usually starts with the question, where do I start? House full of boxes, racks of clothes, no bed set yet, can be overwhelming. As I looked at the mounds in dismay, I heard Jerry yelling down for me from his door. Thinking he had a bit of info about my place was my thought. Instead, I got a question, got any potatos? Potatoes?!? Jerry went on to say he went shopping and wanted to make some stew, and forgot the potatoes. A bit colorful the language about how upset he was with himself forgetting. He was really distressed, Rant at himself ramped up again when I told him no. To make Jerry feel better, told him I was going out a bit later(really not true) shopping, would get his pitatoes(2 white 2 red, 2 yellow, my choice, I had no idea what potato goes in stew). Now I am not a big fan of stew, but Jerry called down to me later on, insisted I come up and he handed me a container of his stew. He also insisted I take a break, eat it while it was still hot. I did. It was delicious! I was amazed how much I enjoyed Jerrys homemade stew.
I will never forget the first words I heard from Jerry as I became a tenant....Got Any Potatoes?
Jerry, miss you . Rest In Peace.
