Obituary for Joseph James Paragona

Joseph J. Paragona
1936-2021

Joseph (Joe) James Paragona, 84, of Waltham, MA died on June 17th after a long health battle – he was a fighter until the end. His wife Pat, along with their children, were by his side in his final days.

Joe joined the United States Marine Corps upon graduating from Arlington High School. After his time in the service he returned to Arlington, and eventually Lexington, where he raised his family. Joe’s first priority was his family, always putting them first.

Joe joined his three brothers, Frank, Louis (Waco), and John (Dovey), on the Arlington Fire Department in 1968 and served for 25 years, until retiring in 1993. Joe loved being a firefighter, and his son Joe Jr., a current Arlington firefighter, has continued the family tradition. Joe was an avid Boston sports fan, his favorite being the Boston Bruins, and he spent his free time hunting, golfing, skiing, and enjoying the company of his family and friends.

Joe is survived by his wife, Patricia Paragona of Waltham, and his children: Jeanne Marie Church of Wilmington, NC; Joanne Lyttle of Lexington; Joseph J. Paragona Jr. of Billerica; Jayne Paragona of Waltham; Theresa Chaisson and Steve Annas of Milford; Ann and Michael Clark of Milford, and the late Debra Scanlon and her husband James of Hopkinton. Joe was a devoted grandfather to his 10 grandchildren and leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A celebration of Joe’s life will be held at a later date. Gifts in Joe’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, MA/NH Chapter, 309 Waverley Oaks Rd., Waltham, MA 02452
