Obituary for Phyllis Marie Taddeo (Rousseau)

Phyllis M. (Rousseau) Taddeo

Of Waltham, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning August 4th, 2021 in the Maristhill Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Waltham at the age of 80.

Born on August 11, 1940 in Waltham; daughter of the late Edward and Ruby (Cushing) Rousseau, Phyllis was a lifelong resident of Waltham.

As a teenager, Phyllis competed in roller skating competitions at the Wal-Lex. A graduate of Waltham High School with the Class of 1959; Phyllis had been employed as a CNA at the former Waltham Hospital for over 29 years. After the closure of
Waltham Hospital, Phyllis studied to become a Medical Assistant and continued to work in the healthcare field at the Newton-Wellesley Urgent Care. Caring for others was a true calling in her life.

Phyllis was married to her beloved husband Lucas A. "Tad" Taddeo Jr. on September 19, 1959. During a marriage that lasted 61 years until Tad’s untimely death in 2019, they were a team throughout the ups and downs of life. Their love for each other was evident to all who came to know them.

Together, they had 7 children, but because her husband was always working to support the family, it fell to Phyllis to keep the kids and home running smoothly. This, Phyllis did with great organizational and motherly skills. Always present in her children's activities, be it a Cub Scout den mother, taking the girls to dancing school or watching the kids in sports, she always found the time to support her children.

She loved all genres of music with a special fondness for the 50’s music of her youth and country. Her favorites ranged from Roy Orbison to the Bee Gee’s. Her fine cooking, especially her famous meatballs, were enjoyed countless times. In
those rare quiet moments in raising a large family, Phyllis could be found reading books on subjects of all kinds. This she enjoyed tremendously. If one of her children said they were bored, her response would be “Read a dictionary”.

Phyllis had a wonderful sense of humor, a no-nonsense style and a caring spirit. She will be missed tremendously by her family and friends but knowing she is now with her beloved ‘Tad’ gives us comfort.

She is survived by her devoted & loving children Patricia Hutchins of Ludlow; Anthony Taddeo and his wife Jean of Waltham; John Taddeo and his fiance Janice of Kittery, Maine; Mario Taddeo and his wife Elise of Dedham; Susan Murgo and her husband Joe of Windham, New Hampshire; Rosanne Taddeo of Waltham; and Lucas A. Taddeo III and his wife Sara of Waltham; her cherished grandchildren John Jr., Bethany, Arianne, Emilio, Matthew, Amanda, Nicholas, Dominic, Toni, Mario Jr., Daniel and Luke; her 4 adoring great - grandchildren; and her dear sister Joan Rousseau of Waltham.
