Obituary for Nelson Teixeira

Nelson Teixeira

Of Waltham formerly of Southington, CT, passed away early Monday afternoon, October 4th, 2021 at the Benchmark Waltham Crossings at the age of 83.

Born on September 20, 1938 in Rio de Janeiro; the late Joao Teixeira and Celeste (Monteiro) Teixeira. Nelson immigrated to the United States in 1961, settling in Southington, CT; after his marriage and the birth of his son. He became a naturalized citizen in 1967 and he married the love of his for 50 years Mary Santos. Nelson was a resident of Southington until moving to Massachusetts to be closer to his son and family after his wife’s passing.

Nelson was employed as a Shop Foreman for Anaconda Copper in Connecticut.

In his spare time, Nelson was active in youth sports, he also enjoyed gardening and was a passionate UCONN Women's Basketball fan. Most of all he was a good father and involved himself in whatever his son was doing, whether it be a Cub Scout Leader, or volunteering with Little League, soccer or band. To Nelson family was the most important aspect of his life. He was a member of the Portuguese American Club and the Sons of Italy.

Nelson was an outgoing and friendly guy who loved socializing with others.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife Mary (Santos) Teixeira in 2018.

He is survived by his loving son Stephen Teixeira and his wife Rachel (Theran) of Auburndale; his cherished grandson Alexander; his dear sisters Jurema Barbosa and her husband Antonio and their children Paul Barbosa and Cyndee Adamson; and his sister-in-law Alice Avery and her husband Terrance and Alice's children Matthew Foote, Amy Bouren and Sarah Spletzer.

Family and friends are welcome to gather and celebrate Nelson's Life to remember the love he shared with others at a Funeral Service in the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody Street, WALTHAM on Friday afternoon Oct. 8th at 12:00 p.m. Visitation will be held prior to the Funeral Service in the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow the Funeral Service at Linwood Cemetery in Weston.
