Obituary for Dorothy A. McNamara (McNamara)

Dorothy “Dottie” McNamara, 85, of Boston, passed away on Wednesday, May 18th, 2022, at the Faulkner Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born in Boston on Saturday, May 8, 1937, the daughter of the late Emmett and Jessie McNamara.

Spending her early years with her family in Boston, she later moved to Waltham and returned to Boston, where she resided for almost 50 years.

Dottie loved and was loved by everyone she met. She was charming and funny. She loved her large family, her friends, her roommates, and her staff. In particular, she loved her dear friend, Anna. Her interests included rug hooking, musicals, traveling, and going to the JCC Friend 2 Friend events, and she never passed up an opportunity to socialize. She loved her Vinfen friends of 50 years and her Rogerson friends of 20 years. Before retiring Dot worked for 20 years at the Corporate Headquarters of IParty in Dedham. She loved her coworkers at IParty and they embraced her as family.

Dot is survived by her brother Tom and her sisters-in-law, Mary Jane McNamara and Doreen McNamara.

Predeceased by her siblings, Virginia McKinnies, Emmett, Lawrence, Arthur, Evelyn Gianotti, James, and Charlie. She was very close to her sisters and so proud of her 5 brothers, who were all Boston Police Officers.

Family and friends are welcome to gather and celebrate Dottie’s life and remember the love and friendship she shared with others during Visiting hours at The Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco and Sons Memorial Chapels, located 773 Moody St. Waltham on Tuesday morning May 24th from 10 am- 11:30 am. Followed by a Celebration of Dottie’s life beginning at 11:30 am. Parking attendants will be on duty.
