Josephine L. (Zammito) Galvagno

Of Newton, passed away peacefully Monday, June 20, 2022 at the Elizabeth Seton Residence in Wellesley at the age of 98.

Born on September 17, 1923 in Boston; daughter of the late John and Benedetta (Attardo) Zammito. Josephine was raised in Waltham and moved to Newton after her marriage in 1948. She raised her family in Newton and spent all her summers in Manomet, MA and many winters in Naples, Florida after retirement.

Josephine attended Waltham schools; and held multiple jobs throughout her life to help provide for her family. She was a hairdresser and she also worked at Raytheon and Keltron as a supervisor. She was first and foremost a homemaker to her husband and five children.

Josephine had a strong faith in her God; for years she was an active and devoted parishioner of Sacred Heart Parish in Waltham. She was also a longtime member of the Sacred Heart Women's Sodality.

In her spare time she enjoyed cooking and crocheting.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Vincent P. Galvagno.

Josephine is survived by her devoted & loving children, Mary Margaret Cretella; Bernadette LeBeau and her husband Peter; Frances Pluchino & her husband Joseph; Anthony Galvagno and his wife Maria; and John Galvagno; her cherished grandchildren; and adoring great grandchildren. In addition she is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews who loved her dearly.

She was predeceased by her dear siblings; Mary Bergantino, John Zammito, Frank Zammito, Frances O'Brien and Pauline Zammito.

Family & friends will gather on September 17 at 11:00 a.m. for a Memorial Service to celebrate Josephine's life and remember the love & friendship she shared with others. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waltham.

Those who wish to pay their respects to Josephine and her family can do so in the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody Street, WALTHAM on September 17th prior to the Memorial Service from 10am until 11am. For those who we love and care about, the family asks attendees to be mindful of social gatherings.
