Obituary for Antoinette Isabel Domeniconi (Mandile)

Antoinette (Isabel) Domeniconi

Of Newton, May 5 2022. Beloved wife of the late George Domeniconi. Loving mother of Jorge Domeniconi and his wife Joanne (Jonah) Domeniconi of Belmont, Daniel Domeniconi and his wife Kelly (Kroll) Domeniconi of Swampscott, Patricia Domeniconi of Newton and her fiance David Kurkjian. Adored grandmother of Alexander and his wife Noelle, Marcelo, William, Natalie, and Daniel Domeniconi

Isabel was born on September 14, 1931 in Messina, Italy to the late Giovanna (Bonica) Mandile and Gaetano Mandile. At age 5 she emigrated to Argentina with her mother to meet her father who settled there 5 years earlier to find work after World War I. She emigrated again to America with her husband George and eight year old son, Jorge during Argentine unrest and the overthrow of the government in 1966. They settled on Jewett Street, became citizens, and welcomed two more babies. Isabel never forgot her beloved Argentina and was always welcoming newcomers, hosting picnics, assados, musical events and fiestas in her backyard. She loved to garden and cook and she especially enjoyed maté, the national drink of Argentina.

Isabel was an icon in the Greater Boston Latin American community where she was known as the voice of Argentina and a female pioneer in Spanish radio. She was the producer, director and host of the popular program, Radio Atlantica for over 30 years which aired every Saturday morning and featured news, reflections, interviews and music dedicated to love and life. On her retirement day, she said; “It cannot be explained, I am Argentine and I like music that speaks of love, of life, tango is beautiful. I like to listen to music that touches your heart.”

Most of all Isabel lived her life loving and centering on her family who she loved with a big heart, bear hugs and a bright smile.
